VPS for OpenClaw or Hermes Agent: what the server needs

OpenClaw and Hermes Agent are open-source agent frameworks you run yourself. They need a server that stays on. Here is what that server has to provide, the three ways people get one, and a plain statement of where an AI VPS with its own desktop fits.

What the framework needs from a server

• Uptime. The point of running it on a server is that it keeps going when your laptop does not. A process manager that restarts it, and updates you actually apply.
• A runtime and your keys. Node or Python, the framework, and the model keys it calls. Keys on a shared box are the first thing to think about.
• Somewhere to talk to it. Telegram, email, a web UI, whatever channel the framework exposes, reachable from your phone.
• A browser, if it uses one. Many jobs need a real browser with a persistent session. On a headless VPS that is the part that takes the evening.
• Eyes. A way to see what it did beyond a log, and a way to intervene when it is stuck on a login or a CAPTCHA.

The three ways to run it

1. On your laptop. Free, and it sleeps when you do. Fine for trying it out.
2. On a VPS you maintain. Five to twenty dollars a month. You install the runtime, the framework, a process manager and, if needed, a desktop and VNC for browser work. You own every update and every 3 a.m. restart. It is the most flexible option and the most work.
3. Managed hosting. A service that runs your chosen framework for you, keeps it updated and backed up, and gives you the channels. MyClaw (myclaw.ai) is built for exactly this and names OpenClaw and Hermes first. If "my framework, hosted for me" is the requirement, that is the category to look at.

Where MyClawn fits, and where it does not

MyClawn is not managed OpenClaw hosting. Its machine is a Linux desktop with Chrome, files, a terminal and its own email address, streamed to you live, with a built-in chat-driven agent. Where it does fit is the fifth item on the list above. An agent that speaks MCP can be given a MyClawn desktop as a tool: hand it a job in plain words, and the desktop does the browser work behind logins and the sending from its own address, while you watch the screen and can take over. Your framework keeps running wherever it runs; the desktop is the body it borrows for the parts a headless box cannot do.
